STAR WARS CONVENTION SWAMPED
Thousands of sci-fi fans from all over the world have united in America for the biggest STAR WARS convention ever.
The four-day extravaganza, billed as CELEBRATION III, kicked off last Thursday (21APR05) in Indianapolis, and even boasted director GEORGE LUCAS as an attraction.
The convention attracted 30,000 die hard fans of the 1977 movie.
Lucas thrilled attendees when he spoke to the crowds - one fan described the experience as "phenomenal...better than hearing the president speak".
Lucas, who was pleased with the massive success of the event, said, "I am amazed at how this has had such an effect on people across the world. It's really gratifying.
"The whole phenomenon began with the fans. That allowed it to be a huge success from the first day the movie opened."
Celebration III heralds the forthcoming release of STAR WARS: EPISODE III - REVENGE OF THE SITH, which hits screens this month (MAY05).
Star EWAN McGREGOR who in an earlier artivle admitted he was never a fan of the epic sci-fi series, he only watched the original movie because his uncle appeared in it.
The actor - who plays OBI WAN KENOBI in Episodes I, II, and III - was taken to see STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE on his first trip to the cinema, but spent the entire movie looking out for his uncle DENIS LAWSON, who played rebel fighter WEDGE ANTILLES.
